Dr. Sanjay Ruparelia, Ryerson University
Dr. Sanjay Ruparelia is the inaugural Jarislowsky Democracy Chair at Ryerson University in Toronto. He is the author of Divided We Govern (OUP 2015), editor of The Indian Ideology (Permanent Black 2015), and co-editor of Understanding India’s New Political Economy (Routledge 2011). Dr. Ruparelia serves as chair of the democratic accountability cluster of the Participedia network <participedia.net>, as associate editor of Pacific Affairs and the Oxford Encyclopedia of Asian Politics, and as an India country expert for V-Dem: the Varieties of Democracy Project. He also hosts On the Frontlines of Democracy, a monthly public lecture series, co-organized with the Toronto Public Library. Prior to Ryerson, Dr. Ruparelia was a faculty member at Columbia University and the New School for Social Research, consultant for the Asia Foundation (Kabul), UNDP (New York) and UNRISD (Geneva), and fellow at Notre Dame, Princeton and Yale.
